How do we talk about gender non-conforming figures in ancient history?

How do we balance “the strangeness of the past” with our students' needs in the present?

How do we discuss and define gender identities (and conceptions of gender and gender performances) that are radically different from our own?

Join us for the WCC's September Reading Group, hosted by Trans in Classics, as we discuss some of the ways that trans studies (and trans*historicity) can help inform how we discuss gender and identity in the Greco-Roman world.

The focus of the reading group discussion will be “Trans, Time, and History” (Devun & Tortorici, 2018). We have also included other optional readings along with a reading guide. Click here for the readings and guide.

Trans in Classics is a working group dedicated to supporting trans folx in the field of Classics and promoting and supporting scholarship rooted in trans identity and theory.
