As part of its “Careers” Initiative, the WCC is partnering with the Classical Association of New England (CANE) for a series of events related to K-12 teaching. We will kick off the “All About K-12 Teaching” Series with our first event: “Overview of K-12 Teaching: A Panel Discussion.” This session will feature K-12 teachers from various types of schools and institutions who will share their experiences as Classicists teaching on the K-12 level. Topics include:
Overview: What is K-12 Teaching?
Deep Dive: Types of courses (e.g. languages, civ/world history, “great books,” etc.)
A Day in the Life: Teaching at different grade levels with a focus on types of pedagogy and activities as well as a typical day / term / year
Getting Started: How to prepare and find which qualifications are needed in your state/city AND how to find jobs
A discussion of the K-12 teaching experience will follow the panel presentations. We welcome anyone who is interested in or currently teaching at the K-12 level to participate in this discussion. Registrants will receive a zoom link to the event, and the zoom name must match the registration name for entry to the event.
Lead Facilitators: Hannah Liu & Gregory Stringer
Panelists: Jacqui Carlon, Annie Huynh, Kelsey Martin, Skye Shirley, Emma Vanderpool
